Steve Pettit serves as the president of Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina.
Prior to becoming BJU’s president, he served for 29 years as the president of the Steve Pettit Evangelistic Team. In this ministry, Pettit emphasized revival and evangelism as he conducted over 800 campaigns throughout the United States and in over 21 countries.
Additionally, Pettit served for nearly three years as national director for Cross Impact Ministries, a national ministry which partners with local churches to minister on college campuses. Pettit formerly served as camp director and staff evangelist for Northland Camp and Conference Center in Dunbar, Wisconsin, and as an assistant pastor for youth ministry at First Baptist Church in Bridgeport, Michigan.
Pettit earned a BS in Business Administration from The Citadel in 1978 and a MA in Pastoral Studies from BJU in 1980. In 1997, he received honorary doctorates from Bob Jones University, Ambassador Baptist College and Northland International University.
Pettit is currently a member of the Board for the Central Africa Baptist College in Kitwe, Zambia and serves as an ex officio member of the BJU Board of Trustees.
Married for nearly 34 years to the former Terry Elkins of Denver, Colorado, he and his wife have three adult children—Rebecca, Rachel and Stephen Jr. and Michael.
